CANBLASTER? YES HE CAN!

If you’re the same as me you’ll have 100’s of podcasts random mixes and just general waste clogging up your hard drive. In an attempt to spring clean my computer the other day i was going through all my podcasts and deleting out the rubbish, and checking out the stuff that had recently downloaded that i’d not got chance to listen to yet.

Boy OH Boy did i miss a trick by not getting onto this one sooner… its an absolute BURNER!!! Honestly, first time i ever wheeled up a podcast (?!?) when he drops his forthcoming French Fries remix (Video Below)! DETROIT GARAGE DOES DETROIT TECHNO

The Dirtbombs have knocking around for an absolute age, peddling the kind of filthy garage-rock that got them swept up in a wave of über-hype around the turn of the century along with bands like The White Stripes and ADULT. Having been residents of Detroit for quite some time, it seems that they have picked up an ear for the city’s other main musical export -TECHNO.

This fascination has led to The Dirtbombs throwing a batch of Detroit classics into a melting pot, stirring them around (rather haphazardly) and touring them out onto the dance-floor.

The results are ‘Party Store’ which is chock-full of some seriously filthy punk-funk bangers, fire yourselves down to your local independent record emporium and get yourselves a copy.

We’re going to go out in true style with our NYE party at Night & Day this weekend. As you know the door price is LOW and there’ll be plenty of drinks offers on the night to help loosen your boots. A HOYA THERE MATIES!

Now i know most of you probably ran out to Piccadilly Records the day this bad boy dropped and scooped up a copy for every member of your family in an “Getting all my Xmas shopping done early” frenzy, but for those of you that dont own one of them spinny things its now been released on digital through Boomkat.

Here’s the blurb: “Manchester’s Illum Sphere and Jonny Dub present the debut release on their newly minted Hoya:hoya imprint named after the much acclaimed Manchester club night of the same name. By far the highlight of the release is Lone’s ‘Let The Music Play’, a unique sounding disco track with a thumping kick drum and distorted vocals layered to great effect before a rugged synthline takes everything down a notch. Illum Sphere, meanwhile, deploys a killer slowed down take on UK Funky which starts off with a trademark ambient wash and thudding drums before a synth reminiscent of his recent Titan 12″ on 3024 takes over and the whole thing collapses back in on itself. MEGA MEGA MIX

Not only will this be the last Contort Yourself of 2010 but it also heralds the last Contort Yourself in our current format… With the New Year on the horizon, we’re taking a brief sabbatical over January returning back in Feb 2011 (same dates, same venue, don’t worry) but in an altogether different guise. We’ll leave it at that for the time being, but be sure to watch this space for more info early in the new year… so to celebrate the end of this year we though it only right to get stuck into everyone’s favourite the MEGA MIX, but with a little added MEGANESS!

Jacques Greene is an incredible hot new producer / dj / performer from Montreal. At the tender age of 20, he is raising the bar on the net level of club, house, dance music with mind blowing productions and a super slick style. The awesome “(Baby I Don’t Know) What You Want” has been doing the rounds for a little while now and see’s a full release on Night Slugs next month.

However his Debut release THE LOOK EP drops next week (16th Nov) on Lucky Me and is seriously worth checking out! To wet your appetite check this little preview mix with snipits of all 4 tracks:

JUSTIN MARTIN

As you know we love a good bumpy beat here at Contort Yourself, and as bumpy beat purveyors go they don’t get much bumpier than Justin Martin.

Feeding off the energy of the San Francisco underground and mentored by fellow super producer Claude VonStroke, Justin was intrinsically involved with the development of dirtybird records, appearing on its first four releases. Justin was soon ready to take flight, releasing a string of solo EPs which flaunted a very unique sound and garnered still more respect among fellow DJs and heavyweight’s of the scene.


As well as his formidable arsenal of original productions, Justin is now equally known for his collaborations with his brother Christian as The Martin Brothers, producing such hip-hop influenced hits as ‘Duckface’, ‘Stoopit’, ‘Dum’. Justin has also made his mark remixing such bona fide classics as Radiohead’s ‘Nude’, Marshall Jefferson’s ‘Mushrooms’, and TG’s ‘Revox’, firmly establishing himself as the man to make big tracks even bigger.

As well as being a genius, he’s also mighty generous. If you head over to his Soundcloud page there’s a veritable cornucopia of sonic delights including classic tracks and mixes including his stellar Bedroom Music sets.

If you’re not signed up to MP3 of the day from teh lovely people at RCRDLBL then i would strongly recommend you do… who doesn’t want free music straight to your inbox every day??? Not everyday to i get involved but todays offering got my juices going.

When i first heard “Air War” i literally shit. At that time it was possibly everything i wanted. Crystal Castles not only sounded the part, but they looked it too, the graphics, the attitude, the style, they were the full package. So a few years on this little number has somewhat rekindled my love for these guys. The best comment of their sound i read once was that it was like “Listening to children’s nursery rhymes played backwards on Gameboys, while being showered by acid rain”. Cant say i agree more, although this ones got that funny bloke with the big hair from that band the cure sigining on it… its time to get involved.

UM OK, WELL STOP MAKING ME THEN

We got dropped this killer FREE track and mixtape from Stopmakingme to share with you guys… its a churning cosmic banger and, yeah, you should be! We couldn’t be arsed writing anything because we also got sent this lovely blurb that tells you pretty much everything you want to know about him and this forthcoming EP… read on if that’s what floats your boat or just pillage the goods linked at the bottom, but anyway im off brush up on my gully creeper and dutty wine, so i’ll leave you with this:

“Stopmakingme is well known for his residency at London institution Fabric as well as regular appearances at nights such as Bugged Out and Durrr. Now his star is set to rise further as Erol Alkan has hand picked him to be the resident DJ for his Phantasy Sound label, hosting their radio show and helming their new club night.

The EP is culmination of all things he loves about the dancefloor and influences he’s absorbed from London life. With the stench of Halloween still thick in the air our guest at this weekends rave BICEP dropped us over a dastardly mix to get things warmed up. Its part of their 3 hour Marathon Halloween mixtape. PUNKS JUMP UP TO GET BEAT DOWN

Punks Jump Up were the very first guest djs we ever booked at our night… to be honest we didn’t have a clue what we were doing back then but one thing was certain, these guys KILLED it. We’ve brought them back to manchester a couple times since, once to Sankeys and another time in Common which was a total blast! But the return leg to the rave cave is well over due.

Since those times 4 years ago they’ve not let up, they’ve been a constant barometer for hyped up electro party bangers and always on point with remixes for the likes of Tiga, Gossip, Crystal Castles, Zongamin, Kele, Miike Snow, to name a few. So its good to see them back in the saddle with a new Single “Blockhead” dropping on Kitsuné’s Anniversary Masion No.10 comp next month. It will also be getting a full release backed with some badman remixes no doubt before the end of the year, and rumours are their debut LP will be dusted by the end of the year scheduled for release summer 2011. Filled with Cameos from Peter Bjorn & John, Chromeo, Black Kids, DVNO, Saintsaviour (Groove Armada), We Have Band and more things look to be hotting up for these guys in 2011 so keep an eye on their prize.
