THE BEGINING OF THE END

Dear Contortees.

Its with a heavy heart that we must inform you that Contort Yourself as you know it will be no more as of 2011.

As a famous man once said “We’ve had a good run”… and we thank everyone who’s ever played or attended any of our parties. It’s all of you that have made Contort Yourself so special to us over the past four years, so Thank You.

We’re going to go out in true style with our NYE party at Night & Day this weekend. As you know the door price is LOW and there’ll be plenty of drinks offers on the night to help loosen your boots. We’ll also have a whole host of friends joining COYO residents on the decks to see things out proper. SO if you’ve not made plans as yet we’d love to see you and help us celebrate the special night.

For more information and ticketlinks check the event page here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149187165128421

Big Love.

Team CoYo.

PS. We’ll still be running our blog with free mixes and party vibes dished out on the regs as well as ruining other peoples parties when given the opportunity as guest djs… who knows there could even be a few one offs every now and again?!?

PICTURE HOUSE GOT THE LOVE

Picture House just sent us this tasty little nugget, that as you’d guess from the title is a cover of the ubiquitous Candi Staton number of the same name. I cant help but think there’s been a little Christmassy influence in here, well at least that or he’d been glugging a few Gluehwein’s whilst putting this together, because although the original remains true as a stout underbelly there’s a festive ping alongside the acidic pop twist that he’s created.

Check it out for yourself, i think you’ll rather like it, and while you’re here why not get involved in his recent mixtape as he gets down and dusty with a collection of his favourite records from all over the place recorded live… yeah live, on them spinny things.

Not only will this be the last Contort Yourself of 2010 but it also heralds the last Contort Yourself in our current format… With the New Year on the horizon, we’re taking a brief sabbatical over January returning back in Feb 2011 (same dates, same venue, don’t worry) but in an altogether different guise. We’ll leave it at that for the time being, but be sure to watch this space for more info early in the new year… so to celebrate the end of this year we though it only right to get stuck into everyone’s favourite the MEGA MIX, but with a little added MEGANESS!

PART OF THE SUMMER NEVER DIES

The boys from KJs (formerly known as Knob Jockeys) sent us over this nice little mix to blam up on the blog… we’ve been a bit doom and gloom as the winter rolls in, but to be honset i prefer the winter, you’re never disappointed by it not being cold enough and when you get one of those crisp sunny days it doesn’t get any better! But back to the point… these guys are refusing to let the summer slip through their grips with a tropical mix of afro beats, samba rhythms and electro house to squeeze the last of those golden rays of warmth out of that happy little sun.
they’ve also entered it in to the Bench / WHP comp so if there’s buttons to click or votes to cast then here’s the place to do so.

FIVE

Naive Melody is coming to an end, well sort of… After 5 long years throwing some of the best parties at one of Manchesters weirdest venues, the boys are hanging up their headphones, for the time being anyway. We’re not sure what to expect next from them as they’ll only divulge that they’ll be “Throwing a few one off parties in the new year”. But until then they’ve still got one last dance at Charlies, and it just so happens to be their 5th Birthday! A Full residents roster will be keeping the carpets well scuffed and sticky as they take us on a journey over the last 5 years of Naive Melody… I think this previous guests line up speaks for itself:

DETROIT BEATDOWN

Norm Talley, Delano Smith and Mike Clark come together for a special triple-header on this week’s RA podcast.

Detroit is generally acknowledged as the birthplace of techno. But often lost amid the mythologizing of the Belleville Three is the enduring hold that house music has also held on the city. The trio of Delano Smith, Norm Talley and Mike “Agent X” Clark, AKA Detroit Beatdown, have nonetheless flown the flag high for a unique, slowed down and raw take on the genre that could have only come from the Motor City. Supported by the unflagging efforts of Third Ear Recordings’ Guy McCreery and their own tenacious DIY spirit, the trio has pushed the sound in an official capacity for more than a decade.
