CANBLASTER? YES HE CAN!
![]()
If you’re the same as me you’ll have 100’s of podcasts random mixes and just general waste clogging up your hard drive. In an attempt to spring clean my computer the other day i was going through all my podcasts and deleting out the rubbish, and checking out the stuff that had recently downloaded that i’d not got chance to listen to yet.
Boy OH Boy did i miss a trick by not getting onto this one sooner… its an absolute BURNER!!! Honestly, first time i ever wheeled up a podcast (?!?) when he drops his forthcoming French Fries remix (Video Below)! This mix is properly refreshing and he’s onto some serious future business, i know we always say it but this guy is one to watch and if no one books him to play manchester soon then we might just have to come out of hiding to do just that! Download the mix from the link below and visit XLR8R to find out more info… we’ve also included a cheeky little bouns for you which is another of our favourite tracks from the mix.

xxxy is a Manchester based producer and DJ who’s been taking discerning dance floors near and far by storm of late
With a sound that takes in all the best bits of garage and early house and a DJing style that combines fluidity as well as fun, the local boy has really been floating the Contort Yourself boat of late.
Try to catch him on one of his regularly fantastic excursions on U-Stream and cop his recent release Ordinary Things / You Always Start It on Ten Thousand Yen the a-side of which featured on our Winter’s Heat mix.

In fact it dropps on the 31st of Jan to be precise and you can pick it up HERE. THE BEGINING OF THE END

Dear Contortees.
Its with a heavy heart that we must inform you that Contort Yourself as you know it will be no more as of 2011.
As a famous man once said “We’ve had a good run”… and we thank everyone who’s ever played or attended any of our parties. It’s all of you that have made Contort Yourself so special to us over the past four years, so Thank You.
We’re going to go out in true style with our NYE party at Night & Day this weekend. As you know the door price is LOW and there’ll be plenty of drinks offers on the night to help loosen your boots. We’ll also have a whole host of friends joining COYO residents on the decks to see things out proper. SO if you’ve not made plans as yet we’d love to see you and help us celebrate the special night.
For more information and ticketlinks check the event page here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149187165128421
Big Love.
Team CoYo.
PS. We’ll still be running our blog with free mixes and party vibes dished out on the regs as well as ruining other peoples parties when given the opportunity as guest djs… who knows there could even be a few one offs every now and again?!?

NOBODY JACKS FASTER

Massive BRAPS to Jackmaster who won DJ Magazine’s “Best Breakthrough DJ Award” 2010 (we voted for you!). If you came down about this time last year to see him play at COYO you’ll know why he scooped the gong. We knew we were in for a top night when we got a very cryptic phone call from the man himself earlier in the day saying “Do you boys like to party, you know, really party”. This was one of my personal favourite nights we ever had in the cave, so in honer of this check out the first Numbers Podcast that takes you From Paris to Baltimore via Detroit!

TRIED FOR YOUR LOVE
Hudson Mohawke showers Hoya Hoya’s own Krystal Klear’s track ‘Tried For Your Love’ with a bucketful of heat that’s sure to get the dancefloor so full it’ll be bustin’ at the seams. If you got that mad and undying love for divine piano stabs then quite frankly, this ones for you.
If you’re looking for more reasons to listen then this guy is one of the biggest personalities in Manchester…and plays one helluva mean set that makes that wannabe-cool-folded-arms-against-the-wall thing damn near impossible.

YOU DONT HAVE TO THINK TWICE… TWICE!

The lovely people over at Traveller sent us a promo of the latest Kojak Giant Sounds EP from Brighton’s Maxi Soundsystem on which the lead track “Criticize” is an absolute corker. The more astute of you may have realised that its a edit of the monster Alexander O’ Neal club jam of the same name, but dragged kicking and screaming up in to a 21st century disco, complete with a throbbing 80s power bassline, housey keys and punctuated by those trademark soulful vocals. We’re so into this it hurts so expect it to get a serious wheeling out at the Mega Mega Mix next weekend.

Due for release before the end of the year you can pick up this and a load more over at Juno Here.

A HOYA THERE MATIES!

Now i know most of you probably ran out to Piccadilly Records the day this bad boy dropped and scooped up a copy for every member of your family in an “Getting all my Xmas shopping done early” frenzy, but for those of you that dont own one of them spinny things its now been released on digital through Boomkat.
Here’s the blurb: “Manchester’s Illum Sphere and Jonny Dub present the debut release on their newly minted Hoya:hoya imprint named after the much acclaimed Manchester club night of the same name. By far the highlight of the release is Lone’s ‘Let The Music Play’, a unique sounding disco track with a thumping kick drum and distorted vocals layered to great effect before a rugged synthline takes everything down a notch. Illum Sphere, meanwhile, deploys a killer slowed down take on UK Funky which starts off with a trademark ambient wash and thudding drums before a synth reminiscent of his recent Titan 12″ on 3024 takes over and the whole thing collapses back in on itself. Rounding off the twelve is Krystal Klear with a very 80s sounding piece of modern boogie complete with handclaps and those apt crystal synths. A seriously heavy twelve and a perfect start to what promises to be a label to watch.”

at £1.95 for all 3 tracks you might as well treat yourself even if you got the 12″

MEGA MEGA MIX

![]()
Not only will this be the last Contort Yourself of 2010 but it also heralds the last Contort Yourself in our current format… With the New Year on the horizon, we’re taking a brief sabbatical over January returning back in Feb 2011 (same dates, same venue, don’t worry) but in an altogether different guise. We’ll leave it at that for the time being, but be sure to watch this space for more info early in the new year… so to celebrate the end of this year we though it only right to get stuck into everyone’s favourite the MEGA MIX, but with a little added MEGANESS!
The best Djs from Manchester’s Most awesome nights weren’t available, so we scrabbled together this bunch of idiots to get a bit too drunk and play totally awesome music right down your listening holes.

Benjamin Yourself (CoYo / Freitags)

HAPPY WEDNESDAY
Thank the lord we’re half way through the week already.
Roll on Saturday for our boy Tamer’s club night Eat My Beat on Saturday with the wonderful Mosca.
EAT MY BEAT WITH MOSCA
The Roadhouse, Saturday 17th November
Mosca has smashed it this year, his fusion of bashment, grime, house, garage and techno making waves across various scenes. He featured on the first Night Slugs release, then later with his own Square One E.P, r…emixed Four Tet and Foals, featured on Fabric’s Elevator Music CD and put together countless mixes for the likes of BBC Radio 1, Fabric and many more.
“Mosca’s tracks are primarily built to power dance floors, but they are also deceptively sophisticated. They demonstrate an understanding of post-dubstep bass science while echoing the structures, textures and general sense of hedonistic abandon that characterised first generation hardcore”
